What do you do when you get a friend for secret santa and he doesn’t add anything to his wish list? And he just-so-happens to have a hobby of taking intimidating photos in alleyways? And you’re a graphic designer with a penchant for mischief? Make him a photobook of himself, of course!

I utilized a grid structure that would allow for a lot of variation in the layout so that I can match the off kilter feeling of the photos and generally have a lot of fun with the placement. I created a separate grid that outlined the margins for type (even though it only appears on the first page) and highlights the rule for number placement.
Brandon is a fan of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion and hip hop artist Kanye West. I wanted to work these elements into the book as easter eggs. On the cover you’ll notice the use of Times New Roman as a reference of Evangelion’s famous title cards. The back cover references the design of Kanye’s “The Life of Pablo” album.
